I’ve been trying to find the best clothing to wear for hooping. The plain fact is that the ideal way to hoop is wearing as little as possible. The hoop sticks so much better to skin than to clothes! I spent weeks trying to get the hoop from my knees to my waist but it was only when it was suggested to me that I do it with bare legs that I finally did it. Nice though this is, you might get some funny looks if you turn up to your hoop class in just your pants.
If naked isn’t possible or practical, comfortable fitting clothes are the next best thing. Leggings are good if you are going to be hooping on your legs as there is no extra material getting in the way. Just make sure they aren’t made of shiny material or the hoop will tend to slip down.
For the top half, I like to have bare arms as it’s easier for shoulder hooping. It also means you don’t get too hot when you’re working hard. Vest tops or t-shirts work well, but anything goes really, as long as you don’t have too much baggy material hanging around to get in the way. As with the bottom half, shiny material can make hooping more difficult, especially if you are a beginner.
In conclusion, if you are at home and you have the house to yourself, try the minimal clothes option and you might find that that trick that has been eluding you suddenly becomes easier. If, on the other hand, you have to wear clothes just be comfortable and save the shiny items for your Zumba class.
